Hughes General Contractors is proud to announce that the Niels Fugal Sons Company Headquarters has earned a Tilt-Up Concrete Association (TCA) Achievement Award. Situated on a 17-acre site in Salem, Utah, the 32,000-square-foot facility serves as the new central hub for a company with more than a century of leadership in the telecommunications and natural gas industries. Designed to support long-term growth, the campus integrates modern office space, a warehouse, weld shop, heavy equipment service bays, and outdoor support yards.
Originally planned as a pre-engineered metal building, the project shifted to architectural tilt-up concrete after the design team demonstrated its superior life-cycle value, thermal efficiency, and durability. Exposed sandblasted concrete panels deliver a refined aesthetic worthy of the Fugal legacy, while the team overcame challenging soil conditions through the strategic use of rammed aggregate piers. The TCA Achievement Award celebrates not only the project’s technical precision and craftsmanship, but also its success in transforming a utilitarian workspace into an enduring landmark built for the next century.
