The Milford UDOT Maintenance Complex sets a new standard for transportation infrastructure through strategic use of tilt-up concrete construction. Hughes General Contractors won the design-build contract for this remote site and delivered a consolidated, high-performance facility that exceeds the value of previous UDOT buildings.
The project merges several outbuilding functions—maintenance, salt storage, brine tanks, and wash rack—into one tilt-up structure. This approach simplifies site circulation, reduces construction costs, and minimizes long-term maintenance. The tilt-up system also allows for easy replication across future UDOT sites, regardless of size or location.
To reduce the site footprint, salt storage was incorporated as a bay within the main building, and a concrete storage room was added beneath the brine tank pedestals. The facility eliminates the need for evaporation ponds by processing wash bay water through the local sewer system, enhancing environmental performance.
