For nearly 80 years, the Dixie Sunbowl has served as a gathering place for generations of Southern Utah residents. Originally built in 1947 through the donated money, materials, and labor of Lions Club members and residents, the downtown arena has hosted the Dixie Roundup Rodeo, football games, concerts, fireworks, graduations, and countless community celebrations.

After decades of use, aging concrete, outdated amenities, and structural limitations made a major renovation essential. With funding supported by a voter-approved bond, the City of St. George selected Hughes General Contractors to lead construction of the renewed arena in collaboration with MRW Design Associates. Hughes crews are transforming the historic venue into a safer, more comfortable, and more functional gathering place while preserving its longtime home in the heart of downtown.

Hughes crews are delivering a renewed Sunbowl with expanded seating capacity, improved sightlines, upgraded bleachers, shade structures, modern restrooms and concessions, enhanced lighting and sound infrastructure, improved circulation, and dedicated event service areas. Working within a compressed schedule ahead of the 2026 Dixie Roundup Rodeo, the team is carrying forward the same spirit of collaboration that built the original arena—creating a revitalized community landmark ready to connect generations for decades to come.
