Shoreline Junior High School

Layton, UT

Shoreline Junior High School is a state-of-the-art building designed to rework the idea of the typical junior high school experience. The design organizes the school into specific grade-level classrooms connected by hallways and academic “learning suites,” where students can collaborate together. These spaces provide flexible, open environments for group collaboration and project-based learning. The design also incorporates natural daylight, LED technology, and solar sensors. Davis School District paired with Layton City to create an expanded gymnasium with twice the gym space for both students and the community. The school’s mechanical system utilizes two-stage evaporative cooling in place of air conditioning. This system also delivers fresh air through displacement ventilation to save energy and provide a healthier learning space.
