Located along the shores of Farmington Bay, the Eccles Wildlife Education Center creates a welcoming gateway to the Great Salt Lake wetlands. Designed for school field trips, families, wildlife enthusiasts, and community groups, the campus brings education, gathering, and nature together in a setting that encourages visitors to explore and connect with one of Utah’s most distinctive ecosystems.
Three specialty buildings form the heart of the center: an exhibit hall introducing visitors to local wildlife, a classroom with teaching and laboratory space, and an assembly hall designed for educational programs and community events. In the classroom, a full-height operable glass wall opens toward the wetlands, allowing students to experience the landscape as an extension of the learning environment.
The architecture reflects its natural surroundings through exposed heavy timber, board-formed concrete, weathering steel, expansive glass, and living green roofs planted for northern Utah’s climate. A landscaped courtyard with public art and shaded gathering areas connects the buildings, creating a cohesive campus where visitors can learn, gather, and enjoy views of the lake and its abundant wildlife.
