The 62,431-square-foot Alta High School Performing Arts Center is a state-of-the-art, freestanding arts facility designed to elevate performance and gathering opportunities for students and the surrounding community. Its architectural tilt-up concrete structure established a new Utah height record, with the tallest panel reaching 75 feet, 8 inches—9 feet, 2 inches beyond the previous record—and individual panels weighing as much as 135,000 pounds.
At the center of the building, the 1,374-seat auditorium is wrapped in a woven bird’s-nest motif inspired by Alta’s hawk mascot. Gray and red exterior metal panels feature a straw-like pattern that reinforces the nest concept while connecting the facility to the school’s colors. Inside, the room transitions from darker finishes near the floor to lighter tones above, visually expanding the auditorium and drawing attention upward.
A full fly loft, orchestra pit, extensive catwalk and rigging systems, and advanced acoustical features support a wide range of musical and theatrical productions. Towering acoustic wall panels help balance sound throughout the auditorium, while dedicated changing rooms, a green room, makeup space, storage, restrooms, and independent mechanical systems support performers and backstage operations. Together, these elements create a sophisticated educational venue with the capabilities and presence of a professional theater.
